For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23 (NIV)

wages: How would you feel if your boss refused to pay you the wages that were due to you?  Deep down we all know that it is only right that we get what we deserve.  We earn wages for the life we have lived from God.

sin: Sin is more than an action, it’s an attitude too.  It is simply all the things we have done in our lives that are against God.  Has God ever seemed far away?   Thats what sin does, it makes God seem far away.

death:  Bought the farm, kicked the bucket, pushing up daisies, someday everyone will face death.  In the Bible death always means some kind of separation.

but:  Sin... Death... what a bummer.  Most of this has been bad news up until now, that is why the word BUT is such an important word.  There is a big change coming, the rest of this verse is good news.

gift:  If wages are what someone earns, then what is a gift?  A gift is given, free of charge, no strings attached, that is the definition of a gift.  But remember every gift was purchased before it was given.

of God:  How do you feel when you receive a wrapped gift and you open the card to see who it’s from?  This gift is from God, no one else can give it, no one else can purchase it to give to you.

eternal life: the opposite of death.  If death is separation, what is the opposite of separation from God?  Eternal life with God.

Christ Jesus:  Every gift has a giver.  Every gift has a receiver.  Only Jesus Christ can you give you the gift of eternal life with God.  Will you accept the gift?

Trust: at some point you have to put your trust in something.  Trust the alarm clock to go off and wake you up. Trust the car to start so you can go to work.  Trust your boss to pay you at the end of the month.  At some point you have to admit that you are responsible for your sin... and TRUST Jesus Christ for your salvation.  He died on the cross for you, so that you might have eternal life with God.

If you want to ask Jesus to forgive your sins and trust him for your salvation and make him Lord of your life, pray this simple prayer.

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as the Lord and Savior of my life.
In Your name.

Amen.
